The Frankston 2025 Community Vision captures 'the Frankston dream' to create a better place to live, work and visit.
Our dream for the broader Frankston community in 2025 is about people living in a shared desire for social, environmental and economic sustainability.
While Frankston City Council is using the 2025 document to plan and prioritise, everyone in the community can share in achieving our vision for 2025. It can be used by community groups and organisations to help them plan for a sustainable future.
Developed 'by the community for the community' the Frankston 2025 journey started in September 2006. Over a 12 month journey more than 1500 people from the broader Frankston area came together through a variety of activities to create our shared vision.
Then, on 1 October 2007, Council endorsed the Frankston 2025 Community Vision as an expression of the Frankston community's shared vision for our future.
It is clear our community is looking to the future with a strong focus on sustainability - making Frankston City an even better place, both now and for the future. Feedback showed how our community really love living in Frankston and are positive about the City's future. Overwhelmingly, they want others to see all of Frankston's qualities.
The City of Frankston has won the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria's Sustainable Cities Award for 2008. Click on this link for more details.
On Saturday, 24 November 2007, the Frankston 2025 Community Vision was launched by the former Mayor, Councillor Glenn Aitken. Click here to see the vision.
As a community we have seen many changes, some positive and easily accepted, as well as others that have challenged us. It is timely that we now come together with renewed optimism to build a positive future for Frankston City.
The Frankston 2025 Community Vision is a guide for both Council and the community.
The Community Vision:
Long-term priorities will help to make our community more sustainable; one that is healthy, resilient and long-lasting.
More than 1500 people from across the municipality were actively involved in developing the Community Vision. Throughout a series of workshops and events, including the Visions for our Future event, Frankston 2025 Conference, Frankston 2025 Community Workshops and Frankston 2025 Community Surveys, people shared their views and aspirations for the long-term future of Frankston City.
A draft Frankston 2025 Community Vision document was available for public comment from May to June 2007. Before finalising the draft vision, Council invited feedback from the community on the themes and aspirations described in the document, through community workshops, written submissions and surveys.
Council received over 200 written responses to the draft Frankston 2025 Community Vision. Most of the feedback received was strongly supportive of the vision, and there also were some excellent suggestions for improvement.
The community's responses were collated by an external consultant thehumphreysgroup, and presented to the Frankston 2025 Advisory Committee and Council for their consideration and input
This process has now culminated in the development of the final Frankston 2025 Community Vision document, endorsed by Council on 1 October 2007.
Frankston City Council and the Frankston 2025 Advisory Committee would like to thank everyone who participated in the development of the Community Vision.
Everyone can help to make Frankston City a better place. Here are some ideas on how you can become involved in helping to shape our future:
